AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. William "Bill" Clarence Reed, of Carriage Creek in Augusta, died on Sunday, September 2, 2007 following several years of declining health. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Homes, West Chapel, 3686 Wheeler Road, 706-860-0009. The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Committal services, with Marine Corp Honor Guard, will follow in the family plot at Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Reed was born in Hartwell, Georgia. He was the son of the late Clarence M. Reed and the late Rosa Lee Steed Reed. Bill moved with his family to Carrollton, Georgia where he graduated from Carrollton High School. After high school Bill joined the Marines. He finished his first tour and returned to Carrollton to attend West Georgia College. After graduating, Bill was recalled to the Marine Corp to serve in the Korean Conflict. After his second tour was completed, he graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law. He has been an Augusta resident since 1955 when he joined, and later became a partner in, the Law Firm of Fulcher, Fulcher, Hagler, Harper, and Reed. He was a member of the Georgia Bar Association and Past-President, in 1977, of the Augusta Bar Association. Bill retired from the firm in 1993. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Holmes Reed and by his brother-in-law, John Wesley Tanner Jr. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Floyd Reed; sons, William Thomas Reed M.D. and his wife, Sally, of Atlanta and David Candler Reed of Thomasville; step children, Debby Ann Pearson and her husband, Michael, of Beech Island and Michael David Schuyler and his wife, Amanda, of Augusta; a brother, Donald Lee Reed and his wife Fran, of Burlington, North Carolina; sisters, Mary Reed Knapp and her husband William of Raleigh, North Carolina and Barbara Reed Tanner of Carrollton; ten grandchildren. Bill's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to his legal secretary, Joyce Poe, for her many years of devoted service and friendship. Attorneys from Bill's former law firm will serve as pallbearers. For memorials, the family suggests The Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, 1101 15th Street, Augusta 30901 or The Jud C.
