AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. James "Buddy" Rooks, 82, beloved husband of Mrs. Virginia Rooks, entered into rest on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at the VA Medical Center. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Dr. Jacob Malone officiating. Mr. Rooks was happily married to his wife Virginia for sixty years. He worked for the DuPont Company for 33 years until his retirement. Mr. Rooks was a member of the American Legion-Post 63 and was on the SRP Credit Union Board of Directors. He also served as a deacon for many years at Fleming Baptist Church and was a current member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. In addition to his wife, Mr. Rooks is survived by his daughters, Donna Lynne Gatch and husband Douglas Kirk Gatch, Elaine Rooks, and Carol Rooks Perara; his brother, Etheridge Lamar Rooks, and "brother" Lloyd Rooks; his sisters, Willadean Kuykendall, Virginia Stanfield, Jimmie Clark, Sonya Usry, and Shelby Harden; his grandchildren, Sean Alan Norris, Amy Lynne Foster, Brooke Maddox, Nicole Waters, Matt Perara, and Jessica Gatch; and also nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Rooks was preceded in death by his father, James Lamar Rooks; his mother, Pauline O. Faglier Rooks; his brother, John Owens Rooks; and sister, Joyce Dixon. The family will receive friends on Tuesday night September 4, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Platt's Funeral Home on Crawford Avenue.
