Jones is one of five finalists seeking to become the champion of Fore Inventors Only, a reality show on The Golf Channel. The winner will be revealed during the live season finale tonight at 10.
"I'm confident I have a real good chance of winning," Jones said. "I feel like my invention still has the broadest appeal."
Jones is the inventor of the Club Caddy, a clip that attaches to any club and allows it to stand upright. He invented the product to save golfers from bending over and having to pick up wet or dirty clubs around the green.
The grand-prize winner will be chosen by popular vote. Viewers can still select their favorite invention at www.golfchannel.com/foreinventors. Voting will close after the third segment of tonight's show.
Other inventions include: a sloped hitting tee, a golf travel bag, a portable putting training aid and a digital recording device used to record golf swings for instant feedback.
Jones, his wife and four of his five children departed their home Monday morning, taking a seven-hour van ride to Orlando. His father, from Texas, and sister, from south Florida, were planning to go, too.
Since the show's first airing in July, Jones said, interest in his product has been gathering momentum.
"The more the show has aired, the more e-mails I get," he said. "These are people I do not know. These are people who somehow found me through the Internet."
Jones said he's enjoyed watching the shows and seeing the feedback from judges Fulton Allem, Bill Harmon and Stina Sternberg. But watching the show has not been easy at times.
"The show doesn't even air all the way, and my cell phone is ringing off the hook," Jones said. "I'm hearing from relatives I didn't even know I had."
Win or lose. Jones plans to have his product on the market by the end of the year.
