ALLENDALE, S.C. - Mrs. Doris Clara Polk Fennell, 87, of 744 Parkwood Terrace, Allendale, died Monday, August 13, 2007 at Heritage Healthcare of the Lowcountry. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2007 in The Brice W. Herndon & Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Cross Swamp United Methodist Church Cemetery in Islandton. Mrs. Fennell was born July 1, 1920 in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Jasper Decatur Polk and Edna Georgia "Pet" Polk. She was the widow of Blanchard Fennell and was a retired seamstress with Davan Manufacturing Company in Allendale. She was a member of Mount Arnon Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Citizens of Allendale. She loved sewing, loved working with her flowers and loved her dog, DD and her cat, Coco. Surviving are her children, Alice Laverne Fennell of Brunson, Jeanette Walker of Barnwell, Edna Rose Smoak of Gaffney, Billy Eugene Fennell of Hardeeville, Howard Louis Fennell of Estill, Linda Catherine Key of Augusta, Ga., Patsy Elaine Hankins of Gaston, Dottie Fay Zielinski of Aiken, Lonnie Ray Fennell of Allendale and Violet Claire Weathersbee of Barnwell; adopted daughter, Nancy Miller of Hampton; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an adopted daughter, Kathy "Kitty" Crosby. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the funeral fund, Post Office Box 1273, Varnville, South Carolina 29944. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 at The Brice W. Herndon & Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel, 1074 Yemassee Highway, Varnville. 803-943-5016.
