AUGUSTA, Ga. - Miss Mary Balk, 96, went to be with the Lord on Friday August 10, 2007 at Trinity Hospital. A graveside service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday August 14, 2007 at Magnolia Cemetery with Mr. H. Jules Godin officiating. Miss Balk was a native of Augusta and the daughter of Wilhemina Hains and William F. Balk. She was a high school secretary in the Richmond County Board of Education for 41 years with 25 years being at Tubman High School for Girls, 13 years at George P. Butler High School, and three years at the general office of the Richmond County Board of Education. She was in happy fellowship at Bethany Chapel where she taught the Nursery Sunday School class for several years. Miss Balk was an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Rho chapter which is an organization comprised of professional women in education. Survivors include her niece, Mrs. Louise Thompson Collier and her husband Robert of Powell, TN; two nephews, Mr. Wesley W. Thompson Jr. and his wife Anne of Indonesia; Mr. John William Thompson and his wife Melinda of Signal Mountain, TN; and several great nieces and nephews. Miss Balk was predeceased by her sister, Louise Balk Thompson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday August 13, 2007 at Platt's Funeral Home Crawford Avenue.
