AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, August 10, 2007 at his residence, Mr. Harry Whitfield, 81, husband of the late Doris C. Matheny Whitfield. Mr. Whitfield was a native of Savannah, GA and has resided in Augusta for the past 50 years. He was a graduate of Benedictine Military School in Savannah and a US Army Veteran of WW II where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He also served in the 42nd Rainbow Division and was a member of the Georgia Air National Guard. Mr. Whitfield was retired from sales in the carpet industry. Family members include his daughters and son-in-law: Anne Whitfield of Clarks Hill, SC, Susan W. and Harold Pitchford of Augusta; sons and daughters-in-law: Timothy Stephen and Meg Whitfield of Augusta, Frank M. and Janice N. Whitfield of Augusta; grandchildren: Eric Whitfield, Elizabeth Whitfield, Matthew Whitfield, Jeremy Pitchford, Kevin Pitchford, Brandon Pitchford and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, August 13, 2007 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. John Lyons and Rev. Wade Trimmer officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and family members. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Catholic Social Services 811 12th St., Augusta, GA 30901 or the Golden Harvest Food Bank, 3310 Commerce Dr., Augusta, GA 30909.
