AUGUSTA, Ga. - Gerald L. Kurunsaari, beloved husband of Meta Veldenzer Kurunsaari, entered into rest at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Downtown Division, Thursday, August 9, 2007. Funeral services will be held at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road Chapel, Monday, August 13, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Raphael Estrada officiating. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors. Mr. Kurunsaari retired from the U.S. Army after serving over 20 years as an SFC. Tours of duty included Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 10 years; a member of American Legion Post 205 and member of the Color Guard Post 63. Survivors include his wife, daughters, Katharina (Andrew) Thompson, Augusta; Helen Bentz, Augusta; Ramona (Steve) Wach, North Augusta, S.C.; Lana (Paul) Benton, Clinton Township, Michigan; grandchildren, Doug Bentz, Adam Bentz, Joseph Wach, Paul Wach, Sarah Wach, Amanda Benton, Nicholas Benton, Celeste Thompson, Clarissa Thompson; beloved dog, "Foxy"; brother, Ralph Kendall, Alabama; sisters, Shirley Ward, Redford Michigan and Nancy Lennon, Ypsilanti, Michigan. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Elliott Sons, Lumpkin Road Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2607 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Ga. 30906 or the American Diabetes Association.
