Children have another chance to play before school

A free back-to-school event sponsored by the Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department will be held Saturday at Perry Memorial Park on Abbeville Avenue in Aiken.

The event originally was scheduled for Aug. 17 at Smith-Hazel Recreation Center.

"It's going to be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.," said Betty Gyles, director of the Smith-Hazel Center.

There will be a school supply giveaway, as well as games and entertainment for children. The pool will be open as well.

"Children will be treated to local talent. There will be youth choirs, egg races, a three-legged race, a tug of war and water balloons," Ms. Gyles said.

Members of the Free Ryders Motorcycle Club will be at the event.
