MEETINGS: 2 p.m. the third Tuesday of every month at the Chesterfield Street library in downtown Aiken. The annual meeting will be in October.

MEMBERSHIP: You don't have to be a member to attend meetings. Friends of the Library donate at these levels: $15 for individuals, $25 for families, $50 for businesses and $100 for patrons.

MISSION: To provide assistance and money to benefit the Aiken County Public Library. This includes covering expenses not covered by the library budget.

Friends also develops fundraising programs and events. The group currently funds the DVD rental program and helped establish wireless capabilities in the library. The next project is to raise money for more nonfiction books.

QUOTE: "It is about supporting a very valuable resource to the community. Libraries are the starting point for our younger members." - Victor Dwar, president
