MPAA RATING: R

THE PLOT: Jamie Ashen, (Ryan Kwanten) is getting takeout when his wife is brutally killed. That same evening, the couple had received a package containing a ventriloquist's dummy. Ashen, a prime suspect, heads back to his hometown in search of clues drawn from the stories he heard as a child about the old ventriloquist woman, her dolls and murder.

MY THOUGHTS: Although I am not a big fan of horror movies, this one isn't as gory as most. The movie keeps you watching, thanks, in part, to its dismal and creepy atmosphere.

Detective Lipton (Donnie Walhberg) is pretty funny.

THE VERDICT: If you are a fan of the Saw movies, this one is for you.

MPAA RATING: PG

THE PLOT: An inner-city recreation center is about to close, and a young employee (Terrence Howard) is sent to begin putting things in order for the shutdown. A former swimmer, he reopens the pool instead, catches the interest of several teens in the community and, before you know it, a Cinderella swim team is formed.

OUR THOUGHTS: A little obvious in its plot development (who doesn't see the team making it to the state championships?), this movie, based on a true story, is still a decent movie, with decent acting that reinforces the idea that anyone can do anything they put their minds to.
