EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Pauline Bryan May, age 88, died on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at her home. Mrs. May was born in Washington County, Georgia, on September 28, 1918 to Amanda Ophelia Fulghum Bryan and William Gainer Bryan. She married Joe Coleman May on September 13, 1941. As a young woman, Mrs. May worked in the County Agricultural Office in Sandersville, Georgia, and as draft board clerk for Jenkins, Jackson, and Banks Counties, Georgia. Later, she enjoyed homemaking, golf, bridge, church and community activities. When living in Atlanta, her greatest interest was her church, Westminster Presbyterian. She was highly complimented for her two-term service as president of the Women of the Church. It was a labor of love, and she worked very hard at it. During World War II, Mrs. May joined her husband through a number of stateside military assignments until he was shipped overseas. After her husband's military service ended, the couple resided in the Georgia cities of Millen, Elberton, and Jefferson. In 1957, the Mays moved to Wilmington, N.C. and, in 1968, to Atlanta, Georgia. For 14 of the years in Atlanta, Mrs. May and her husband enjoyed a second home at Sky Valley, Georgia. In 2001, they left Atlanta for Brandon Wilde retirement community in Evans, Georgia. Mrs. May was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Hattie Ruth Hermann and Janie Avrett Brett; and her brothers, William, Jacob, George, and Albert Lee Bryan. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joe C. May; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. May has donated her body to the Medical College of Georgia. A memorial service will be held in the Georgia Room at Brandon Wilde in Evans, Georgia on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her childhood church, Riddleville Baptist Church, c/o Cynthia Garrett, 1723 Riddleville- Mt.
