A North Carolina couple were in the hospital Monday after a serious wreck involving their sport utility vehicle and a garbage truck. The wreck happened just after 10 a.m. as Matt Dryden, 35, his wife, Sheree, and their 1-year-old son were traveling on Old Belair Road, said Columbia County sheriff's Lt. Andy Shedd. In a sharp turn, an ACES LLC garbage truck slid into oncoming traffic and struck the Drydens' Nissan Xterra head-on, Lt. Shedd said. Mrs. Dryden and her son were removed from the vehicle and taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital with minor injuries. It took emergency responders nearly 40 minutes to remove Mr. Dryden, Lt. Shedd said. He was in serious condition Monday, said Danielle Wong Moores, a hospital spokeswoman. The truck driver, Michael Ewanis, 22, of Martinez, had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
