New charges levelled at previous sex offenders

  • Follow Metro

Two Augusta men previously prosecuted for sex offenses are facing new, unrelated charges of sexual assault.

In separate indictments returned by the Richmond County grand jury last week, 16-year-old Marquis B. Williams and 32-year-old Johnny L. Baker were charged with sexually assaulting children.

In Mr. Williams' case, he faces charges that include rape and kidnapping involving assaults on two 13-year-old girls on several occasions this year between February and May 30.

Mr. Williams previously was prosecuted on sexual assault charges as a juvenile.

Charges of child molestation and aggravated sexual battery were transferred to Richmond County Juvenile Court in February 2006.

In Mr. Baker's new case, he is accused of four counts of child molestation and two counts of misdemeanor battery.

The indictment alleges Mr. Baker fondled and beat two girls May 6.

Mr. Baker currently is on probation for a peeping Tom conviction. He pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court. He was accused of looking under a bathroom stall at Augusta Mall in 2004.

The probation sentence Mr. Baker received in the peeping Tom case began this year.

He was released from prison in February, according to the Department of Corrections' Web site.

He had been serving a prison sentence for aggravated assault, a crime that occurred several years before the peeping Tom case.

Mr. Baker and Mr. Williams are in jail awaiting trial.

Each will be arraigned in Richmond County Superior Court in the next few weeks.

These men have a chronic

These men have a chronic disease. It will not get better and they will never recover. I'd suggest organ donation, that way their life would have meaning.
