Woods chooses unknown

Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin, didn't want some high-profile celebrity photographer to take the first professional pictures of their new baby. They picked Gretchen Dow Mashkuri, who lives on a farm east of Salem, Ore., and doesn't have a Web site or even a business card.

Sam Alexis Woods was born June 18, the day after Father's Day, to Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin. It is their first child.

The birth of Sam Alexis Woods was announced on the golfer's Web site June 18. In keeping with the couple's desire for privacy, the announcement omitted many details, such as the baby's height and weight.

Mashkuri said her journey to Florida began when she received a call from her brother, Scott Dow of South Carolina, on June 21.

"My brother asked me if I would be interested in photographing Tiger Woods' baby," Mashkuri told the Statesman Journal in Salem. "At first, I was, 'Oh, no.' Then I said, 'Absolutely.'"

Mashkuri said her brother's sister-in-law - the interior decorator for Woods - recommended her for the job because the new parents wanted someone who is unknown.

"I think the reason I got the assignment was because I am a mother of four children and I live on a farm on a gravel road in Silverton (Ore.)," she said.
