Get moving on Marion Williams matter

  • Follow Letters

For some time we have heard that Augusta Commissioner Marion Williams owes back taxes. I always thought your property would be sold following a reasonable time period upon refusal to pay. Do we have a double standard here?

Residents of this county need clarification on tax rules that will be enforced. If we are not going to enforce the current rules, new rules need to be adopted.

Now to the hard drive caper. Illegal copies of county information certainly should be treated with urgency. Since the city's computer department is on record stating that no copies have been made available for Williams, this greatly raises the level of the problem. This indicates that county records may be in the hands of individuals outside any security standards that may be in place relative to tracking and personal information.

That our tax money could be paying for a lawyer to advise a key figure to not cooperate, I find very disturbing. Our residents deserve better, and if law enforcement is required, let's get moving.

Tom Walters, Augusta

The problem is that the other

The problem is that the other Commissioners have sat on their hands too long over Marion Williams. Now at this late date they want to try to make him tow the line. Some one needs to explain that while he professes to be a man of of GOD, he isn't GOD.At least Calvin Williams got slapped down before he got wide open. Now he'll spend the rest of his term whinning about his fellow Commisssioners picking on him. While these two are a pain in the backside the real people to blame are the gutless ones who let them get away with playing the race card for so long.I guess being labled a racist in Augusta is a two edged blade. If your white it's something to be avoided at all costs, but if you are black it's a sign of pride, showing Whitey he can't shut you up, No matter how obnixious & stupid you are. Please tell me these chumps on the Commission, White & Black are not the best Augusta can find to run our Government? Has everyone with brains and intestinal fortitude moved to Columbia County or dropped dead? Marion is getting just what he wants. To be in the limelight and to disrupt any progress. Don't let him win.

Marion needs to be taken

Marion needs to be taken behind the woodshed for some good old-fashion discipline. You can't embarass him, he has no shame. He can't speak in a full comprehensive sentence, only ebonics. May God bless him & a white man kiss him, that should be the kiss of death for his antics.

There are any number of

There are any number of people still in this county who would be effective, ethical commissioners. They just can't seem to get elected in certain areas of Richmond County. The electorate is the problem in Marion Williams' and a few others' districts. The good potential leaders all haven't moved away, but it's getting pretty clear that, in several of our districts, the majority of the intelligent voters have. Decent people offered themselves for election against both Williams and Holland, to no avail. Williams talked a good game when he first ran for office, and no one, but no one, had any idea he would turn into such an obstruction and embarrassment.

Worried, you are correct. The

Worried, you are correct. The problem is they are too smart to get involved in all the garbage that goes along with holding public office."Coach"Holland is a fine example of saying one thing to get elected and then doing the exact opposite. He fooled a bunch of people that I know into thinking he would be a counter weight to Marion the Mouth. But he turned out to be just as bad or worse. I wonder if he can be sued for false advertising. Hey Woody***

Commissioners Williams and

Commissioners Williams and Holland haven't done anything but asked some hard questions and pointed out some wrong doings.
Some people want wrong things to be covered up like ex Senator Cheeks' land deal.

why would anyone want to be a

why would anyone want to be a member of the augusta commission? guilt by association. why would anyone want to be mayor? no power, no vote, only catching the fallout over what he can not control. check out where all of the commissioners came from financially before being elected and check out where they are now. follow the money and see where it came from and where it leads.

It is sad that a couple of the commissioners can be ineffective, disruptive and defiant, and no one does anything about it. The commissioners that are being silent are just as guilty to allow these two commissioners to slow down Augusta's progress. We need to get rid of all of the commissioners and start over.

When will all the “JACK---‘s

When will all the “JACK---‘s in Augusta realize that it’s not just 2 individuals that need to leave the commission. Unfortunately most people are focused on Marion Williams they forget about the others who are making their behind the scene deals to line their pockets with gold. People, all of these clowns are tarnished now, dissolve the whole commission and start over. Stop chasing the carrot. Is Williams part of Disgusta’s problems, “YES” but so are the others. Augusta has a long history of issues and the people of the old RC who voted on consolidation of Augusta and Richmond have no room to complain, you get what you ask for. Augusta was already in the hole when they consolidated with RC, the people of the county were promised more and better services what happen. Guess what it’s gotten worse, we have the worse government ever and to continue to blame one or two people for this is ridiculous. It takes 6 votes to make things happen and if you take Williams and Holland out you still have 8 left, “DO THE MATH.”

Man I' m so tired of hearing

Man I' m so tired of hearing about Marion, it is sad.So you don 't like Marion Williams, I don't care for the Bush administration, but life goes on.You guys get up early in the morning to talk about Marion, what, did you dream about him too. Who put out this imfomation about his taxes? What was their motive? I do not care how another person pays his taxes, as long as mine are paid. We have system in place to handle this situation. If you are always saying it is not racial it probably is. I try to be fair, but Pat you your ilk are clearly racist. Anyone reading post can see it.You are no better than Marion.

Huge Rave for Calvin Holland for leading the way and kept the housing project away from that district. I think Hankerson would have kept his mouth closed and let it happen.

Pofwe, ebonics on the commission is not the only place I hear it. I heard some guy from GA in the House of Reps this morning speaking perfect ebonics (and I could hardly understand what he was ranting about other than he knew how to say Republican and Bush fairly clear).
