WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Acie McCullough, Sr., 82, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the Wellstar Hospital in Austell, GA. Acie was born September 17, 1924 in Waynesboro, Georgia, to Clarence and Oletha McCullough. He attended the Burke County Schools, and at the age 70, returned to continue his education through the adult literacy program. He was employed by Air Liquide (formerly Liquid Air & Nitrogen), where he retired after more than 30 years of service. A craftsman at heart, Acie continued to work following retirement as a Master Barber in the Waynesboro, GA community. He was a member of the Phillip Grove Baptist Church, once pastored by his father Clarence. Although active in church activities, Acie is most known for having served on the Deacon Board for four decades. In 1944, Acie wedded Mamie Lee Smith, and to this union were born 10 children. In 1979, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years. He is adored and survived by his children: Christine (John) Allen of Augusta, GA; Acie (Betty) McCullough, Jr., Chicago IL; Melvin McCullough, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Laverne (Purvis) Dukes, Sr., Waynesboro, GA; Deloris McCullough, Brooklyn, NY; Gary McCullough, Waynesboro, GA; and Harriet (Darryl) Locke, Gloria McCullough, Cassandra McCullough and Latonia McCullough, all of Atlanta, GA; Roosevelt Walker, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Andrel Harden, Waynesboro, GA. One sister Mattie Peoples of Augusta, GA. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 11:00 a.m., at the Waynesboro Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 752 Highway 25 South, in Waynesboro, GA. Burial in Pine Cemetery. Viewing will take place on Friday, June 22, at 12:00 noon at Phinazee & Son Funeral Home, 404 West 8th Street, in Waynesboro, GA. Service of comfort entrusted to the care of Craig R.
