Oconee, Walton sign 50-year water deal
WATKINSVILLE - Oconee and Walton counties soon might make it legal - signing a 50-year agreement to build a $353 million water reservoir together.
The agreement, approved by the Walton County Commission, creates an advisory group of officials from both counties but leaves control of the project in the hands of the Walton County Water and Sewerage Authority.
The Oconee County Commission hasn't scheduled a vote on the agreement, commission Chairman Melvin Davis said.
The agreement, negotiated by lawyers representing the two counties, would govern the operations and finances for the reservoir on Hard Labor Creek in Walton County, designed to supply 42 million gallons of water per day to the counties.
