2 16-year-olds killed at graduation party

STOCKBRIDGE - The two people killed when violence broke out at a weekend graduation party of 300 have been identified as 16-year-old girls.

Molly Cohran and Yahshika Frye were rising juniors at Stockbridge High School when they were shot to death outside the club house at an apartment complex Saturday.

The two were innocent bystanders in the violence that also left eight other teenagers injured, police said. Most of the those who were injured suffered stab wounds.

Henry County Police Lt. Jason Bolton said the case appeared to be gang-related.

Oconee, Walton sign 50-year water deal

WATKINSVILLE - Oconee and Walton counties soon might make it legal - signing a 50-year agreement to build a $353 million water reservoir together.

The agreement, approved by the Walton County Commission, creates an advisory group of officials from both counties but leaves control of the project in the hands of the Walton County Water and Sewerage Authority.

The Oconee County Commission hasn't scheduled a vote on the agreement, commission Chairman Melvin Davis said.

The agreement, negotiated by lawyers representing the two counties, would govern the operations and finances for the reservoir on Hard Labor Creek in Walton County, designed to supply 42 million gallons of water per day to the counties.

Enrollment increases at state universities

MACON - Middle Georgia College was among the schools that posted the greatest enrollment gains in the University System of Georgia this spring, according to a new system report released Monday.

Middle Georgia College in Cochran had the second-largest enrollment gain in the state - up 12.9 percent from spring 2006 to spring 2007 for a total of 2,906 students. Only Gainesville State College outpaced it with 15.4 percent growth.

Statewide, enrollment grew 3.2 percent to 249,947.

Numbers show that more students are enrolling as full-time students or taking heavier course loads.

System Chancellor Erroll Davis said in a news release that the growth was "healthy."
