Volunteer to help feed the hungry

Parents: Are you looking for something constructive with which to get your teens involved?

Golden Harvest Food Bank is seeking volunteers to help in our Product Rescue Warehouse, the Faith Food Factory, to sort through nonperishable donations. Our goal is to move at least 2 million pounds of products through this warehouse annually. Without volunteers to sort and repackage, these products cannot be distributed.

The Faith Food Factory is at 1831 Old Savannah Road, and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. We do ask that volunteers commit to helping at least two hours on the days they do come. However often is up to the individual. The flexibility makes this opportunity good for anyone who would like to help feed the hungry in our area, but thinks they don't have the time!

We can accommodate children as young as 8, provided they are accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Youth ages 13 and older may be dropped off at our product rescue warehouse, after we get the parent/guardian's signature and have all necessary contact information. Any potential volunteers should be able to lift at least 25 pounds (not constant lifting) and stand for at least an hour with no problems.

For more information, please contact me at Golden Harvest Food Bank at lharmon@goldenharvest.org; (706) 736-1199, ext. 208; or (800) 766-7690, ext. 208.
