AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Monday, May 7, 2007 at Trinity Hospital of Augusta, Mr. Fred G. Steiner, 89, husband of Donna T. Steiner. Col. Steiner was a native of New York, NY. He graduated the College of the City of New York. Col. Steiner retired from the US Army after 30 years where he served in the European Theater during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and was assigned as Commandant, the US Army Military Police School at Fort Gordon. Among the US and Foreign decorations and medals received were the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star, the Belgium Croix de Guerre with Pal, and the Vietnam Army Distinguished Service Order. Col. Steiner joined Sherman & Hemstreet, Inc in 1969 and was Vice-President of the company from 1981 until he retired in 2004. He was past president of the Augusta Board of Realtors, State Director, GA, Association of Realtors, Past Realtor of the year, Augusta, Board of Realtors. Col. Steiner was also a member and past Director of the Kiwanis Club of Augusta, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Kiwanis Club Augusta Scholarship Fund. He was designated as a George F. Hixson fellow by the Kiwanis Club of Augusta in 1998. He was also awarded the Tablet of Honor by the Kiwanis Club of Augusta on October 8, 2001, and this was only the second time this award has been given in the History of the Club. Col. Steiner was also a Director and past Board President of the Boy's and Girl's Club of Augusta, Inc. and was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon and Elder. Family members in addition to his wife include his daughter: Elizabeth L. Steiner of Augusta; son: John F. Steiner of Marietta; grandchildren: Anna E. Steiner, Eric G. Steiner; brother: Phillip Steiner of Salt Lake City and niece: Linda Lawry. Mr. Steiner was preceded in death by his first wife: Betty L. Steiner. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Boyd Lien and Dr. G. Daniel McCall officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded. Memorials may be made to the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, P.O.
