Camden woman wins teacher of the year

COLUMBIA - An elementary school special-education teacher from Kershaw County has been named South Carolina Teacher of the Year.

Ann Marie Taylor won the award at a banquet Friday in Columbia honoring the local teachers of the year from across the state.

Ms. Taylor has been a teacher for six years. She works at Pine Tree Elementary School in Camden.

She won $25,000 and the use of a 2007 BMW Z-4 roadster for one year. She also goes on to compete for National Teacher of the Year and will spend a year working across the state to retain teachers and make them better in the classroom.

Woman's home shows evidence of foul play

WALTERBORO - Foul play is suspected in the disappearance of a mother and her 13-year-old son, Colleton County deputies said.

Sheila Faye Dodd, 45, and her son, William, were last seen Tuesday in their Round O home, Chief Deputy Ted Stanfield said.

Ms. Dodd's car was found Thursday in north Georgia. Deputies went to check on their home and found evidence of foul play, said Deputy Stanfield, who would not elaborate.

Deputies have identified an acquaintance of Ms. Dodd they want to talk to about the disappearance, but they have not named him a suspect.

Disney call center to add jobs in Jonesville

JONESVILLE - Union County will get 60 new jobs as DisneyShopping.com relocates its customer call center from Kansas to Jonesville, company officials said.

The call center in Kansas City, Kan., was closed two years ago and the service was contracted out to a third-party provider.

The first of the new employees has already been hired and will begin work at the center May 14.

The company could add at least 100 jobs at the Jonesville facility during the Christmas shopping season, said Joe Hannah, the director of distribution.

Neighbor arrested in death of 17-year-old

GEORGETOWN - A man has been arrested in the shooting death of a 17-year-old neighbor in his mobile home, Georgetown police said.

Delfi Gonzales Roblero was found dead inside the home Monday, authorities said. He had been shot once and his wallet was missing.

Investigators questioned one of Delfi's neighbors, 29-year-old Oliverio Sanchez-Lopez. They then arrested him shortly after the interview, according to police Capt. Nelson Brown.

Mr. Sanchez-Lopez told police he threw the gun used in the killing into a river, Capt. Brown said.
