A familiar organization is coming to Aiken.
"We are about to kick off our building fund for the Wyatt Family Y, and we want to create awareness that the YMCA is coming to the city of Aiken," said Brianna Lamb, the branch director.
The Family Y is a partnership between the YMCA and the YWCO of the CSRA.
To start their campaign, Ms. Lamb and other Family Y officials are holding the Trolley Run Station 5K on Saturday.
The race will take runners through Trolley Run Station, a subdivision under development off the South Carolina Highway 118 Bypass, where the Wyatt Family Y will be located. More than $6 million needs to be raised to construct the center.
"We hope construction will begin in July 2008," she said.
As of Wednesday, 45 runners had signed up, and Ms. Lamb expects there will be many more as the event approaches.
"About 50 percent of our registrations are late ones," she said.
The event will have races in seven age categories. In addition, there will be a children's quarter-mile race for ages 12 and younger.
