EVANS, Ga. - Mr. Vardia Brewer, husband of Flora Summers Brewer, entered into rest Tuesday, April 10, 2007 in Lexington, S.C. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Lumpkin Road Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Len Chavis officiating. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Pastor Rick Lamp officiating graveside services. Pallbearers include Kenny Burkett, Alvin Mixon, Ron Crouch, Rodgers Gentry, Joe Newsome and Eddie Newsome. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ambassadors Sunday School Class. Full military honors will be accorded by the ceremonial detachment of Fort Gordon . Mr. Brewer served in the US Navy & Army for 23 years. During WWII he participated in the Normandy Invasion; he served during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of Lumpkin Road Baptist Church where he was a Charter Member, Past Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer. He also served as a volunteer with the Red Cross. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Flora Brewer; son, J. Wayne Brewer and his wife Elaine Brewer; grandchildren, Angie (Rick) Lamp, Shawn (Becca) Brown, Jerri (Frank) McInturff, Sheilah (Mark) White, Alisha (Mike) Drew; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Shelby, Odessa, Ruthie, Eliza, Caroline and Grady; four sisters, Katherine, Patsy, Rebecca and Dora Mae. He is preceded in death by his father Archie Brewer, mother Mary Brewer stepmother, Della Mae Brewer; daughter, Delores Ann Brown; brothers, Ellis, CH, JC, Billie and sister, Lena. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lumpkin Road Baptist Church, 2540 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Ga. 30906.
