AIKEN, S.C. - Born December 14, 1917 in Wilcox County, Ga. Entered peacefully into rest April 10, 2007 at his home in Aiken, S.C. Survivors are his beloved wife of 63 years, Mildred Elizabeth Barton; one son, Rev. Davis Barton, Jr. (Jeanette Smith) of Aiken, S.C.; two daughters, Ann Barton Hannan (Lt. Col. Ret. Bruce D. Hannan) of Wilmington, N.C. and Sarah Lula Barton of Aiken, S.C.; six grandchildren, Lisa Barton Valentine, Olis D. "Davey" (April) Barton, III., Mitzi Ann (Rusty) Rodgers, Carl Proffitt, Ryan (Jamie) Rayos, and Dusty Rayos; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Ernestine Barton Warren of Deltona, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Seaborn Gaston Barton and Mary Ann Smith Barton; sisters, Lula Barton Vinson and Nadine Barton Costley; brother, Riley Barton, Austin Barton, Perry Barton, Elton Barton, and Dallas Barton. Mr. Barton retired from E.I. Dupont at SRP as a reactor operator after 24 1/2 years due to ill health. He served in the European Theatre during WWII with the 200th QM Gasoline Supply Company. Pallbearers: Dusty Rodgers, Davey Barton, Carl Proffitt, Ryan Rayos, Dusty Rayos, and Henry Moseley. Mr. Barton was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Aiken, S.C. Services will be held at Shellhouse Funeral Home on Hayne Ave. in Aiken, S.C. on April 12, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverends Davis Barton, Jamie Rodgers, and George Holcomb officiating. The family will receive friends at the Shellhouse Funeral Home on April 11, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Interment will take place at Aiken Memorial Gardens, Highway 19 North, Aiken, S.C.
