AIKEN - A 41-year-old man accused of killing a 20-year-old Aiken man nearly 13 years ago finally is behind bars in Aiken County.

Joseph Hankerson was found living in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and was arrested in February by New York police.

He was charged with murder in the Oct. 6, 1994, shooting death of Christopher Pollin.

"U.S. Marshals transported Mr. Hankerson to the Atlanta airport, where local officers took custody and returned him to Aiken," a news release from Aiken Public Safety stated.

According to Aiken police reports, Mr. Pollin was found dead in the Jewish section of Bethane Cemetery with two bullets in the back of his head.

Mr. Hankerson has been on the run since 2002, when a warrant was issued for his arrest after a witness came forward and identified him and Joseph Morrison III, 33, as the shooters.

In 2003, Mr. Morrison was tried and found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
