Doctor held in prescription case

WRENS, Ga. - A 2-year investigation reached a conclusion Tuesday morning when a Wrens doctor was charged with illegally providing prescriptions to patients who had no medical conditions that would warrant them.

Drug Enforcement Agency Agent Pat Clayton walks Dr. In Wahn Yun (right) from his office in Wrens, Ga., after his arrest on eight charges of distributing and dispersing a legal drug illegally.

Investigators from the Drug Enforcement Agency and other law enforcement agencies served search warrants about 9 a.m. at the Wrens office and home of 69-year-old Dr. In Wahn Yun and at the next door pharmacy, Wrens Drug, where investigators say many of the prescriptions were filled. "Our primary target here is the doctor," Sheriff Gary Hutchins said Tuesday.

"We believe that the majority of the prescriptions were being filled next door, but we are not charging him (the pharmacist) with anything at this time."

The investigation, which began about four years ago but was taken on by the DEA only recently, started at the behest of local residents.

"They came to us because they were concerned about their family members who they claimed were going to Dr. Yun and getting prescriptions for drugs when they knew their loved one didn't need them," Sheriff Hutchins said.

Investigators refused to reveal what medications, other than hydrocodone, a pain reliever related to codeine, were involved.

Investigators spent much of Tuesday reviewing records at Dr. Yun's home and office and prescription records written by the doctor at the next-door pharmacy.

Dr. Yun has been charged with eight counts of distributing and dispersing a legal drug illegally. Each count is a felony and carries a possible five-year prison sentence and $25,000 in fines.

In all, Dr. Yun faces 40 years in prison and $200,000 in fines. He also will face charges of theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, both involving a pistol discovered during the searches.

"This investigation is ongoing, and we encourage anyone who wants to come forward with additional information they feel would be helpful," the sheriff said.

Sheriff Hutchins said Dr. Yun has practiced in Wrens for nearly 30 years.

Angel, the doctor is a small

Angel, the doctor is a small part of the problem. The corner dealers and sub dealers are the ones dealing most of the drugs. Too lazy to work so they get their money by hurting others. They need to be rounded up-who needs those slim balls anyway. They only hurt and don't do anything for society. I agree with DiazAn shoot them all if caught dealing.

i think we have overlooked

i think we have overlooked the problem here. the main problem is any person that would take a whole prescription or xanax in one day has a problem. ok the doctor can write 90 for a month. the patient has an anxiety problem. the doctor cannot go home with the patient and make sure that he takes them right.but i do agree that it is about time they busted YUN.

Jessie07 I hope your

Jessie07 I hope your boyfriend was not eating a whole bottle of Zantex! Last I checked I thought that was for acid reflux or something. Maybe you were talking about Xanax? Dr.Yun was trying to keep the town from going to hell. It should have been told about how many people around that area are hooked on prescription pills. Just about a year ago, the drug store was broke into twice and both times the person got what they wanted and did not get caught. Where was the D.E.A. on that one or Clark H. for that? I see he is in the picture smiling!

what is so bad now, is the

what is so bad now, is the people who needed to be treated for legit pain, the md's now will under "care" for them. now don't get me wrong, i do think a review board need to overview md's and pharmacists too on their " scripts',possibly have more of peer review of medical cases to keep in check on proper care. no other md's or pharmacists are not in "cohoots" together, but it makes a better checks and balances. the only ones that are hurt here is the medical profession and legit pain patients.

It's about time Dr. Yun got

It's about time Dr. Yun got caught. He's been doing this for way too long and too many people knew they could get drugs from him. He was a host of many of the crackheads in the CSRA, and something needed to be done about it. I know first hand that the pharmacist is completely innocent and only did his job of filling prescriptions that an MD wrote. I really hope they do not try to charge him with anything.

Who would risk an entire

Who would risk an entire medical career and license this way? If you have just filled someone's script for 90 days worth of meds you don't write a new request until it's up. It's that simple.

in response to "not the only

in response to "not the only one"...I'm not buyin the "he helped poor people with no insurance" because I happen to know what, and how he charged for his services. Cash, up front. Plus his facility was FAR less than sanitary at any given time, and I don't believe he owned a pair of gloves...this is not a DR trying to "help people" any more than his own pocket, and in doing so, he "helped" addicts get their fixes easily. Unfortunately, I knew a few people who went to Dr Yun in the past, and if he only got 8 counts, he's pretty lucky!!! It's a relief to know he's off the street, but he's far from the only one....

Sadly, the only reason

Sadly, the only reason doctors such as Dr. Yun are in practice is because there are plenty of drug addicts there to fund such activity. All the lovely drugs, ie XANAX, SOMA, HYDROCODONE, EVEN METHADONE! They think just because they have a prescription that its fine to take as many pills as you want, and to heck with your family and responisibility. It hurts so bad to watch someone you love "say their not high" but nod into their plate of food, stumble over in the yard, and talk like they're out of their minds!

South Augusta, most definitely! I know there are law abiding citizens there too, but there are certainly a lot of "dope"
doctors, and a screwed up clinic downtown!

I personally do not know

I personally do not know anything about this DR. But agree with everyone about getting him basically "Off the Streets"!
I am on Pain Management and I am proud to say that my Doctor cares enough about me to also send me to Physical Thearapy and a Pain Specialist. And he is in South Augusta!
I also know that my Doctor got the hint about all of the "Drug Abuser's" that were trying to get over on him and is no longer accepting NEW Pain Management Patients! So we do have some Doctor's that care about OUR well being and as far as I'm concerned the Dope heads too! Because they won't be getting their fix from him anymore! Cuz he ain't STUPID to the fact!
So all I have to say is if a Doctor is that STUPID then he needs his Medical License taken away for ever!

Myself, being a single

Myself, being a single working mother have no complaints about Dr. Yun. Blaming a Doctor for people being on drugs is like blaming a gun for somebody pulling the trigger. Dr. Yun was mot in anyway a "quack" or a fake Doctor he was there to help people who did not have enough money or could not get off of work on the weekdays and needed a Doctor on the weekend. He was ver inexpensive and through the five years I went to him he did nothing but help me by perscribing me antibiotics for colds, birth control pills and helping me with depression by talking to me and making me laugh. It is a shame that people (drug addicts) can't take responsibility for thier own actions and quit blaming innocent helpful, caring Doctors such as Dr. Yun. If you know someone has a problem with drugs, get them help dont blame the Doctor. COME ON NOW. he did nothing illegal that I could see. Sanitary, have you seen the people in Wrens? He helped the people there that do not have the money to go to a big time Doctor. It will be intersting to see howmany people apply for medicaid now and how full the hospitals will be with sick people. Great thinking. Try to fix up the town or something.

FREEDRYUN - you have GOT to

FREEDRYUN - you have GOT to be kidding. I also knew this doctor. My father went to him before he passed away. He had him on multiple drugs for the same things. On the advice of other doctors and pharmacists, I had to take some of it away from him so he wouldn't OD. Dr., if you want to call him that, Yun was nasty and a drug pusher. A physician should be held to the highest standards because they are the only ones who can write prescriptions for whatever illnesses we have. You said that if someone is on drugs, then get them help. DR YUN SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE HELP!!!!!! He should have not given the illegal prescriptions to them. Yes, ILLEGAL prescriptions. You don't give someone a prescription for something unless they need it. Dr. Yun would not even examine people before he wrote the prescription. And to make a comment condoning his lack of cleanliness because you think the people in Wrens are dirty. You must have bumped your head! And I really don't think there will be a big "rush" to sign up for medicaid or hospitals filling up with sick people because Dr. Yun was arrested. Dr. Yun abused medicaid and medicare as well.
