Named to dean's list

- Carolina E. Bruker, of Augusta and Sara M. Jones, of Hephzibah, have been named to the dean's list for the 2007 winter term at Furman University, Greenville, S.C.

- Margaret Sheehan Mirshak, of Augusta, a 2006 graduate of Aquinas High School and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Mirshak, has been named to the dean's list for fall 2006 semester at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Honor student

Leanna E. Jones, of Augusta, has been recognized as an honor student at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Tifton, Ga.

Teacher honored

Charlotte F. Jewett, a Westminster Schools of Augusta faculty member has been named the outstanding Spanish teacher for 2007 by the Georgia chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

Professors honored

Robert Johnston, a professor of sociology, has received the Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award at Augusta State University.

Also, Michael Searles, assistant professor of history, recieved the Richard S. Wallace Distinguished Service Award; and Anthony Kellman, professor of English, received the Louis K. Bell Research Award.

Gets scholarship

Lynda L. Lamarre, a senior history major, has received a scholarship in honor of Augusta State University history professor emeritus Edward J. Cashin. The scholarship was established by the Augusta -Richmond County Historical Society.

Helps science center

John Deere recently contributed $5,000 to the National Science Center, to support education outreach programs to students across the nation and build new exhibits at Fort Discovery.

Vogtle reactors delayed 18 months
