In a March 9 letter ("Students for Choice: a great deception"), Mr. Simon noted that a Medical College of Georgia group known as Medical Students for Choice had sponsored two forums on the abortion issue. These were open to the public as they should have been. Apparently, MSFC was displeased that several MCG staff, faculty and retired MCG faculty attended and asked some pointed questions. Subsequently, these forums were closed to the public, a point Mr. Simon said was contrary to academic freedom and informed choice.
Mr. Simon also said that tax money pays for some abortions.
For these statements, Ms. Pierucci termed Mr. Simon an "extremist who spins untruths." Further, Pierucci said "on two occasions I have personally witnessed Mr. Simon and his group attempt to control a Medical Students for Choice forum."
Well, maybe some of the "real deception" resides with Ms. Pierucci.
Regarding taxpayer support, interested readers should Google "federal support" and "Planned Parenthood." The result will illuminate astounding Planned Parenthood profit and large indirect federal support for abortion services. Not a pretty picture.
Regarding Mr. Simon and his "group" attempting to control a MSFC forum, there is no "group." One questioner was a former chairman of a major MCG clinical department; others were MCG staff, faculty and retired faculty. I asked a question (I'm retired MCG faculty). Difficult questions do not "control" a forum - even if the answer is contrary to Planned Parenthood goals.
Finally, Mr. Simon is correct about the responsibility of MCG to open such forums. Unless the Medical Students for Choice is a shill for Planned Parenthood, this only seems reasonable.
