Gamecocks roll

COLUMBIA - Melanie Johnson, a senior from Barnwell, S.C., scored 18 points and a dozen players scored as South Carolina overwhelmed Hartford 81-40 Sunday in the second round of the Women's NIT.

The Gamecocks (18-14) also got 10 points from Lauren Simms. Lea Fabbri added seven points and high a game-high nine assists.

South Carolina shot 61.8 per-cent from the field, the sixth-best percentage in school history.

MaryLynne Schaefer led Hartford (25-9) with 15 points.
