AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Ralph Vernon Duncan, Sr., 81, died of cardiac arrest on Friday, March 16, 2007 at University Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Stokes Duncan who died on Thursday, March 15, 2007. Mr. Duncan grew up on the Millhaven Plantation. He played football in high school before joining the Army Air Force during World War II. He went on to graduate from the University of Georgia with a B.F.A. degree. He was an artist, and his artwork was characterized by a crisp, realistic style and ranged from sculpture and ceramics, through small cartoons for the Atlanta newspapers, to technical illustrations for state and federal agencies. He was a long time employee of the Environmental Protection Agency and an admired friend from all walks of life. He is survived by a son, Ralph Duncan, Jr., and wife, Carol; a brother, Perry Leroy Duncan; and two grandchildren, Ariel and Ansley. There will be a visitation for both Mr. and Mrs. Duncan on Tuesday afternoon, March 20, 2007 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Platt's Funeral Home.
