AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, March 16, 2007, at University Hospital, Fr. Erwin O. Lafser, husband of the late Mrs. Joyce Jane Lafser. A native of St. Louis, MO, Fr. Lafser was the son of the late Frank W. Lafser and Rose (Bechtold) Lafser. He was educated in the St. Louis Public School System and did his Undergraduate Studies at DePaul University, Chicago, IL and Washington University, St. Louis, MO. In May 1967, he completed his Graduate Studies at Bexley Hall Episcopal Seminary in Gambier, Ohio. He was ordained as Deacon at Christ Church Cathedral, St. Louis, MO and ordained to the Episcopal Priesthood on January 13, 1968 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Desoto, MO. He served churches in Missouri, Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Georgia, most recently at Trinity Episcopal Church in Harlem, GA. Prior to ordination, he served in the US Army as a physical training instructor and was employed in the BrokerageField with Bear-Stearns, Chicago, IL. He served the church in many ways, including, Police Chaplain, Crisis/Intervention Ministry and Hospital Chaplain. He was married to the late Joyce Jane Walther in St. Louis, MO on August 26, 1950 and they were blessed with three daughters. He was a loving husband, father, father-in- law, grandfather and uncle. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 12:15 P.M. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Lubinsky Celebrant. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. Family members include daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie Ann Veihman and husband, Jan Lewis Veihman of Augusta, Joy Ann Garner and husband, Dr. E. Clark Garner also of Augusta, and eight grandchildren; Christopher, Benjamin, Joachim, Ian, Emily, Caleb Veihman, Olegs and Aleksandrs Garner and nephews, George Walther, Jr., Lee Walther and Terry Walther. Rev. Fr. Lafser was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Lynn Lafser, two sisters and two brothers.
