Boy's body sent for crime tests

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - A black trash bag spotted among the brush and covered in flies was enough for searchers to know they'd reached a heartbreaking end in the hunt for a 6-year-old boy who vanished a week earlier.

Search volunteers react to the announcement by Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering that the body of missing 6-year-old Christopher Michael Barrios Jr. had been found.

The body of Christopher Barrios was found Thursday afternoon inside the bag, three miles from where he was last seen at his Glynn County trailer park.

"It was obvious," said Cpl. Jesse Cook of the Department of Natural Resources. "But if you weren't looking for it, you probably would've thought it was just a trash bag."

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering said he escorted the boy's father, Mike Barrios, to the scene to see the body at the father's request.

Volunteers, wearing T-shirts printed with the boy's photo, sobbed as they heard the news.

"You suspected all along in your heart, it's just not the outcome you want," said volunteer searcher Mari Charnock, who dabbed at tears after the boy was found dead. "At least we know, though. At least it's over."

Chief Doering said he expects to charge all four suspects arrested earlier in the week with Christopher's murder. The boy had obviously been slain, he said, but he would not elaborate.

The body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Savannah, spokesman John Bankhead said Friday.

Christopher lived with his father in a trailer park of about 50 homes. He often stayed with his grandmother, whose trailer is 200 feet from his father's home.

Earlier this week, police arrested 32-year-old George David Edenfield, who lived with his parents across the street from the boy's grandmother, after Mr. Edenfield told investigators he played a role in the abduction.

Mr. Edenfield was charged with violating his probation from a 1997 child molestation conviction, which prohibited him from contact with children younger than 18.

His parents, David and Peggy Edenfield, also were arrested after giving police conflicting statements on where they might find the boy. They were charged with lying to police and obstruction for initially telling police they knew nothing about the disappearance. The same charge was brought against a family friend, Donald Dale. Mr. Dale and David Edenfield told investigators they had buried the boy's body.

When are the people of this

When are the people of this country going to stand up and DEMAND that first time child molesters be put away forever???? Time and again it has been proven that they can not and will not change or be reformed.....how many children does it take to suffer horrible and cruel deaths because of these monsters??

Anyone who intentionally

Anyone who intentionally hurts a child should be locked up forever or killed. Our children are not safe in this world and adults better be more diligent in protecting our children. If this means putting a child molester who lives on your block in a trash bag and weighing it down, dropping it into a river than so let it be!

It seems that those who can't

It seems that those who can't vote get the least amount of protection from all governments. Putting molesters back on the street should not be something parents and children have to deal with. The judge who releases these molesters should be held equally responsible when [no if] they commit their next crime. Our legal officials seem nonchalant when it comes to the safety of our children.

What a shame someone could do

What a shame someone could do that to a child, and some idiots would actually help cover it up! I think they should all get the death penalty only after being raped repeatedly in prison. Judges get tougher on these pedophiles, just pretend it was your kid.

I don't have any kids yet,

I don't have any kids yet, but this hurts me to my heart to keep hearing bad news over and over again about these sick perverted people that want to harm and molest innocent kids! All the child molesters need to be executed point blank! The law needs to be alot tougher than what it is! Those buzzards don't have a heart at all..

It turns my stomach to think

It turns my stomach to think that there is no way to stop these sick monsters until it is too late. I don't know this family, but I still want justice done for this child. Punishment should be equal to the crime. These men should be raped with trashbags over their heads. Let them suffocate while they suffer! I feel like I could never harm a single person, until I read about these twisted evil pedophiles preying on small children. It makes me feel quite violent. I don't like it!

It does leave to wonder where

It does leave to wonder where are the legislators and lawmakers minds when they over and over again choose not to have stiffer penalties for people that hurt children. Why was this man allowed to move into a trailor park with small children living in it if he was to have no contact with anyone under 18? And why in the heck would his parents who know what this father must be going through not want to try to help, but only made a bad situation worse. I hate to say it but it sounds like the entire family has a SEVERE lack of morals!!!! The only thing that gives me an ounce of feeling that this man might get what he deserves is for everyone he ends up in prison with to find out what he did!!! I hear they don't take to kindly to that!!! The courts and justice system may not do what needs to be done but I am sure someone inside there will!!! I hate to sound morbid but he made his choice and he should have to live with it!

How can we protect our

How can we protect our children from these monsters when, in some cases, these children are stolen from what is supposed to be the safest place of all -- their own bedrooms! WE ALL NEED TO BE MORE ACTIVE POLITICALLY TO ENSURE THAT LAWMAKERS & JUDGES IMPOSE THE STIFFEST PENALTIES FOR EVEN 1ST TIME SEX OFFENDERS -- LIFE IN PRISON AND EVEN THE DEATH PENALTY.

This should be brought to justice. No perpatrator should be left to roam around anywhere out on the streets becuase they will find every oppurtunity that they can get to harm someone especially a child.

kill the dog! he, his family

kill the dog! he, his family or their friend should not even go to trial. they will probably be out in a year or two. this baby will never be back. why does the legal system let these perverts out? they should not be allowed back on the streets of america. why sould we have to pay for housing for them to sit up in prison, eat free, sleep free, free cable, water, electricity, etc. just go on and kill them. if it were my child i would be the one going to trial, cause i would not rest until these bas@@@@@ were dead.
