It was South Carolina's first losing season in four years and the 4-12 mark in the Southeastern Conference was the worst of Odom's six seasons with the Gamecocks. The losses included an 87-49 defeat by Kentucky, South Carolina's worst home loss since 1915.
"When you got right down to it, I don't know how I could've done better in terms of coaching," Odom said. "I just don't."
Some Gamecock fans are smarting from the team's poor play, which ended with a first-round, 30-point loss to Arkansas in the SEC tournament.
But consider the loss of forward Renaldo Balkman to the NBA after his junior season, the summer transfer of Stephen McDowell and the knee injury that limited South Carolina's best player, Tre Kelley, during SEC play.
"Once we got into the season, I did what I could do given the tools I had to work with," Odom said. "I look back on that without any shame."
LSU: Center Glen "Big Baby" Davis is leaning toward turning pro and likely will announce his decision by next week.
SOCON: The Southern Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments will return to the North Charleston Coliseum in 2008 before moving to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the next two years.
PRESEASON NIT: Next year's NIT Season Tip-Off will be held at campus sites, rather than neutral sites. It's a return to the format that was used from 1986-2005.
