Pelosi on a mission to damage Bush

As I watched House Speaker Nancy Pelosi prance in front of the news cameras and announce that Congress would force the president to schedule troop "redeployment," I had a nightmarish flashback to the 1980s when then-Speaker Jim "Buy My Book" Wright undermined our president.

President Reagan had warned about the dangers of communism gaining another foothold in our hemisphere, and our need to support the Contra freedom fighters in Nicaragua. Mr. Wright dashed off to Central America to commiserate with the enemy, and managed to push through legislation that criminalized the president's chosen foreign policy.

Now another Democratic speaker apparently hasn't read the Constitution, and thinks there are 435 commanders in chief rather than one. President Bush has the courage of his convictions, but Pelosi's only conviction seems to be whatever will damage the president.

She claims to be dedicated to raising the minimum wage, but sought to exclude American Samoa and benefit a large corporation in her district. She gives lip service to battling so-called "manmade global warming," but demands a jumbo jet to fly cross-country. She pretends to support labor unions, but she and her super-rich husband won't allow their own employees to unionize.

Just another "do as I say, not as I do" Democrat.
