The people who scoff at global warming and apparently are against taking any action to alleviate the current trend usually cite the fact that there have been episodes of warming and cooling of the Earth for millions of years.
What they seem to ignore in their logic, though, is that there has always been a cause of the past global warming and cooling trends.
It is the cause that the many scientists have focused on in the current trend, and that is what is important.
If the disaster that will be caused by the continuing warming trend can be mitigated, shouldn't we do something about it?

Well, I, for one, am trying to triple my carbon footprint by the year 2010. .....well, at least I'm not trying to tell you people to stop driving SUV's while I fly around in private jets, etc. Seems Gore wants to only have two classes, the haves and the have nots. Those that have can always maintain their lifestyles and just pay these bogus offsets, those that are have nots, can just suck it up and eat cake. Is there global warming? Maybe. Is it caused by humans? Not no, but hell no. Mar's is heating up. Maybe we should send these liberals there to see if they can persuade those little green bastards to stop driving SUVs and using fossil fuels before they are taken seriously here on Earth.
....just sayin'.
Oh Lord, "help us to accept the things we cannot change ..." Let us say for the sake of argument that the earth is heating up. What 'cha gonna do call ghostbusters? No, if you fear global warming get on you knees and ask for divine intervention. My Bible reiterates over and over, "fear not ... Trust in God." The goverment uses fear, (e.g. global warming), to gain more power, taxes, civil control, etc ... in the name of dealing with the problem. Quit crying to mankind for help, none will be coming. Call on the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ when you have fear. When you get off your knees after a fervent prayer I GUARANTEE your fears will subside. GOD IS ALWAYS IN CONTROL, PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME. AMEN!!!
Enviromental concerns should be addressed from the time we are old enough to be aware, but we should also try to pick our fights. Constant littering and ground polution that can poison our people for generations are problems that can and should be handled before they start. However, the revolution and rotation of the planet in relation to the Sun and it's relative spots are things that are just a little beyond our control. Air polution should be addressed, and is because of the enviromentalists, but until we have a useable alternative to internal combustion engines and a better replacement for beef then tofu, I think we'll just have to keep addressing it. As a whole, people just need to keep the place where they live neat and clean. It turns out momma was right all along.
Letter writer Lewis Rich is entirely correct. Scientists have factored
out all known naturally occurring phenomenon that affect global weather
patterns in cycles such as the total output of the sun and volcanic
activity. They have concluded with 90% confidence that the current
global warming / climate change can only be explained by human
activities. The biggest factor is the release of greenhouse gases, and
the greatest percentage of those is CO2 emissions from burning fossil
fuels (i.e. petroleum and coal). The United States must join with
developed and developing countries to stem the growth in emissions of
greenhouse gases. The 5 preceding commentators do not understand the basic scientific principles used to reach reality based conclusions.
What scientists? The ones that need a gimmick to continue their funding?
Answer the questions, why is Mar's experiencing a period of global warming? What happened to the last ice age? Why were the fears in the 70's that we were going to experience global cooling?
This IS nothing more than an anti-Capitalistic ploy.
A minority of climatologist think man is the cause of all difficulties with weather. Most reputable relevant scientists know that while man can certainly have some influence on the weather, it's not enough to notice. Stop relying on Mr. Gore movies for scientific knowledge. You'll just look tricked.
