Baseball: Rutgers avoids sweep by Ga. Tech

ATLANTA - Tim Querns drove in four runs in the final two innings to lead Rutgers to a 9-5 win over Georgia Tech on Sunday.

The senior hit a two-out single in the seventh inning and a two-run homer in the ninth to help the Scarlet Knights (5-4) avoid a sweep in the three-game series.

The Yellow Jackets (9-6) got two hits each from Danny Payne, Matt Wieters and Patrick Long.

Rutgers starter Steve Healing (1-1) earned his first win of the season, giving up five runs on nine hits while striking out five in six innings.

Reliever Tim Spicer picked up his first save, holding the Jackets hitless over the last three innings of the game.

Starter Ryan Turner (1-2) took the loss for Georgia Tech, giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out two in 6.2 innings.
