Two weeks ago, Sharma was the backup quarterback for the Daytona Beach Thunder, who lost 49-47 to the Spartans in the World Indoor Football League season opener.
So when Sharma got the chance to switch teams and join Augusta, he didn't hesitate.
Sharma, an indoor football veteran of several seasons, will lead the Spartans' attack tonight against the Osceola Ghostriders.
"I'm pretty much a plug-and-play kind of guy because I have that experience," said Sharma, who has played for several af2 teams.
"A big reason I'm here is because I saw the Anthony Young-Marvin Stone experience and knew I could make it complete."
Former North Augusta standout quarterback Brandon Satcher started in the opener for the Spartans and accounted for seven touchdowns and 243 yards in the win. Satcher was not with the team this week, however, as a result of the team's personnel decisions.
Sharma (6-foot-1, 210 pounds) said he was confident he will fill in and play well immediately.
"I thank the coaches for giving me this opportunity," he said. "I think we can be unstoppable."
Sharma is the first quarterback the Spartans have had with previous indoor experience.
"He's excited. He's been totally about the receivers," coach Bubba Diggs said. "He was a backup at Daytona, and he wanted to play. It was an excellent opportunity for us, and I would have been a fool not to pick him up."
Sharma said he had some trouble getting out of his contract with the Thunder but eventually did and joined the team earlier this week.
