Musketeers reach finals in blowout

Richmond Academy's 80-56 home win over Ware County on Friday night was cause for celebration. The victory came in the Region 3-AAAA semifinals and sent the Musketeers to the region championship game.

Despite the 24-point blowout, it wasn't much of a party in the Richmond Academy locker room.

"We celebrated for 10 seconds after the game," Musketeers boys coach Steve Nobles said.

"That's it. We've got to get ready for Statesboro."

The Region 3-AAAA finals will take place today at Richmond Academy. The Musketeers, who last won a region title in 2001, will face No. 2 seed Statesboro at 6:30 p.m. Richmond Academy swept the regular season series against the Blue Devils 2-0.

In the win over Ware County, Richmond Academy's Trevor Welcher once again led his team, with 22 points. Fourteen of them came in the second half when the Musketeers outscored Ware County 44-30.

Senior Loce Hill scored 16 points while senior Jacob Sullivan added 15 points to help Richmond Academy improve to 18-9 on the season.
