DURHAM, N.C. - William "Bill" John Watkins, 84, a resident of Durham, died Thursday at his home. Mr. Watkins was the son of the late William John Watkins and Elizabeth Johnson Watkins. He was born and raised in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. Mr. Watkins was in the U. S. Navy during WW II and served in Guadalcanal. He lived most of his life in Augusta, GA and Hartland, VT and was employed as an electrician. Bill was a volunteer fireman in Vermont and New Jersey. He was a self taught carpenter and enjoyed sharing his skills with others. He once worked for Vermont Log Cabin Homes and was able to instruct many customers in the construction of their log cabin. Bill was a member of the American Legion and will be remembered for his willingness to help others. Surviving are his wife, Karen Waldo, one daughter, Rosemarie Pearson and husband Ian both of Arundel, West Sussex, England; two sons, William John Watkins III and wife Elizabeth both of Durham and John Harvey Watkins of Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Stephen Pearson of Arundel, West Sussex, England; two sisters, Elizabeth M. Pfister of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ and Pat Meeker of Red Bank, NJ and one brother, Richard E.Watkins of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. A Memorial Mass will be offered 10 AM Tuesday in Holy Infant Catholic Church, with Fr. John McGee OSFS presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
