Confederate flag flap is unnecessary

  • Follow Letters

Well, Southerners, the NAACP and the Rainbow-PUSH Coalition are after our flag again.

It's a shame that they do not use the money and resources they have to address real problems: jobs, school dropouts, black-on-black crime, teen pregnancies, gangs and AIDS. They have failed on these issues.

They get television time complaining about the flag as if all their problems will go away if the flag comes down. Then here come the politicians who want to be elected, disparaging the flag. They would march with the Klan if they thought it would swing the vote in their favor.

I'm glad that my black friends know the true history of the War between the States. Some even have family who fought and died for the South.

It's a real shame in this day and time that people do not know their history. They just let others lead them around blindly, instead of researching their families' histories for themselves.

Debra Scritchfield, Augusta

Unfortunately, there is a large part of our population that is uninformed, misinformed and easily manipulated. And there is a portion of our society that need to manipulate these people. The combination of these two groups is the most irritating rash that Americans must deal with. As long as the left wing press supports them, the rash will continue to needlessly irritate everyone around them. It's their role, it's our role. Fate.

War is bad enough, civil war

War is bad enough, civil war is much worse. Most countries have had a civil war, too many countries are still fighting one. My native country fought a civil war for 80 years and although it is of course mentioned in the history books it is certainly not glamorized. Here, in the US, the civil war has likely been more written about, filmed about and sung about than any other period in our history. Reenactment of horrible battles are done for the tourist industry and I can go on and on. Just look at a simple statistic: more American lives were lost during the civil war than in any other war fought since. Where is the glory in that?

" GET OVER IT " That war is over. No one is alive today that fought or lived in that war. Take the advice that you all always give Blacks about slavery. GET OVER IT.

"Your flag" is a symbol of

"Your flag" is a symbol of hatred and humiliation. This flag was used as a symbol/a badge of honor , if you will by one of the most notorious hate groups in America...the Klan. That is what upsets Black people. To see it plastered on everything is like waving a red flag in front of a bull.

So until this group of people sees all signs of the flag removed from places that are suppose to serve, defend and protect all people...the debate and the protesting will never end. The NAACP and the Rainbow-PUSH Coalition are as determined to end the visibility of this flag on all public/state facitlites as others are to keep the flag in place.

Toppergem, what a sad

Toppergem, what a sad commentary. The Klan also used the christian cross, much more then the confederate flag. I guess that's ok? Part of the manipulation of the black population was to convince them that it was the flag at fault, not the people who misused it. I'm sorry so many people fell for this trick. Do you think coddling these people will help them heal or just incourage them to continue to be tricked?

Along with the Christian flag

Along with the Christian flag they used the American flag. This same American flag flew on slave ships bound for New England states in the 1700's. Do we hear complaining about the American flag flying on ever street corner we see? I rest my case.

The confederate flag did not

The confederate flag did not lose is virtue during the Civil War, but rather during integration, when countless southerners flew it at anti-integration rallies and used it as THE symbol of the fight to maintain segregation. If you cant see this, and acknowledge it, then you are blind. Drop the defensiveness and the Civil War rhetoric and realize that the flag became the flag of segregation, and for that, its been forever shamed. Its a rag, pure and simple.
