Carolina rants and raves
Special

A BIG THANK YOU to the person that turned in my purse from a buggy at Publix in North Augusta last week. With all the negative things in this world, it's refreshing to have a positive!

THIS A RANT FOR the postmaster in North Augusta. She is rude and has an attitude problem. Where did the U.S. Postal Service find her? She needs to go back to Hephzibah where she came from. Oh, I forgot; they don't want her there, either.

THIS IS A RANT for the state of South Carolina, from an old white man who loves the state and lived there for over half a century. Please remove that Confederate battle flag, or Southern Cross, or whatever the flaggers are calling it this week, from the front of the state Capitol. Hardworking South Carolinians have historically shown remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. They do not deserve the indignity of having the symbol of a lost and unjust cause thrust in their faces.

I'D LIKE TO RANT about the Aiken County Sheriff's Office. I'm a resident of the Breezy Hill community in Graniteville, and we've got guys down here selling drugs and everything, but nobody's doing anything about it: guys down here in the double-wide trailer selling drugs, a guy riding around in a Range Rover selling drugs, and nothing is being done about it.

I HAVE A RAVE for the assemblers of the Sunday paper. They come in to work late Saturday and work early Sunday morning, and last Sunday the paper was in complete alphabetical sequence, all sections A through G, and the inserts properly at the rear. It was just a pleasure. It was the first time in as long as I can remember that this was done. So, thank you from a satisfied subscriber in North Augusta.

THIS IS A RANT to the NAACP. I'm really disappointed that they use the Rev. Martin Luther King's birthday, especially in South Carolina and Georgia, to abuse the Confederate flag. I've never heard Martin Luther King ever say anything derogatory about the Confederate flag, and I really get sick of these people using King Day to try to take down all our Confederate flags.

THIS IS TO ALL the lowlife bums out there in this world that are too sorry to go out, get a job and buy their own stuff instead of robbing, stealing and killing for what they want. They should get bread and water in jail instead of living it up in a hotel with our tax money. The law needs to do more.

I THINK THAT CAR manufacturers should stop putting turn signals on vehicles. From what I've seen, no one uses them, anyway. They should replace them with louder horns.

A RANT FOR THE ARMY Corps of Engineers, which supposedly maintains Thurmond Lake levels. Their prediction that the lake would fill up in the spring is goofy. The lake always fills up in the spring, then drops to low levels in the summer. Even a caveman could figure this out. What we want is a lake that is full year round.

I HAVE A RANT to SCE&G about the mannequin that is still hanging next to its Misty Lake picnic area on Ascauga Lake Road. It has been there for months, and I have called the sheriff's office to try to get SCE&G to do something about it. Please take it down.
