Struggling Predators' leader keeps team loose

The Fox Creek High School Predators have won only one basketball game this season, but team captain Seth Bryant still has a smile on his face.

"He shows leadership on the floor. He works hard and he never stops," said Fox Creek coach Andre Baskett, whose team had a 1-11 record as of Wednesday.

Bryant, a senior, has been playing basketball since he was 9 years old - starting with recreation league teams.

Bryant said he is willing to play any position where he is needed, but he thinks he is a natural guard.

"I'm short," he said.

Baskett said Bryant is a good all around player.

"He's a good rebounder and he's a good ball handler - we don't have too many of those (on the team)," the coach said.

Bryant said versatility is the biggest asset he brings to the team.

"I can do everything," he said.

Bryant also is one of the leading scorers on a team that struggles to put up points, Baskett said.

"We're in a tough conference. We've had a couple of close games this season that we've come up short on," he said.

The Predators will finish their basketball season Feb. 8. No matter how the season ends, Bryant said it will not discourage him about playing sports.

"Competition - it's fun," he said.

Bryant played football for the Predators last fall. Being a small school, the team required its players to play both sides of the line - offense and defense.

Bryant played quarterback and defensive back.

Bryant said he doesn't mind being a multi-purpose player. He said attending the small school has its advantages.

"You know everybody," he said.

After the basketball season ends, Bryant will play center field for the Fox Creek baseball team.

He said he's been playing baseball since he was about 5. "I liked it when I was a kid," he said.

Bryant said defense is his strongest suit in baseball.

"I'm a better fielder" than hitter, he said.

Bryant said he has been too busy enjoying high school to make plans for later in his life.
