SYLVANIA, Ga. - Mary Daniel Matthews, age 89, died Monday, January 15, 2007, at Syl-View Healthcare in Sylvania. The Burke County native was retired from the Sylvania Police Dept. and a member of Sylvania First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Sara Waters Circle and the Ellis Miller Sunday School class at Sylvania First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by: Husband: Wilbur Churchill Matthews, Sr., retired Captain from GA State Patrol. Survivors: Son and Daughter-In- Law: Wilbur C., Jr., and Mary F. Matthews of Sylvania; Sister-In- Law: Elizabeth Daniel of Augusta; Two Grandchildren: Pamela M. and Lamar Davis and Laura Matthews, of Sylvania; Two Great-Grandchildren: Blake Davis and Kathryne Davis of Sylvania; Special Friend: Betty Purvis; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Visitation: Wednesday, January 17, 2007, From 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services: Thursday, January 18, 2007, at 11:00 AM at the Sylvania First United Methodist Church with Dr. Charles Cravey officiating. Interment: Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
