Your Silly String can save a soldier's life.

Squirting Silly String into building entrances before soldiers rush into them can help identify trip wires for bombs, so local car dealer Milton Ruben is collecting as much as he can to ship to Iraq.

Donations of Silly String can be dropped off at any Milton Ruben dealership. Locations include 3514 Washington Road in Augusta and 3516 Washington Road in Martinez.

Investigators search for robbery suspect

Richmond County sheriff's investigators are looking for a man they say robbed a west Augusta gas station at knifepoint Saturday morning.

Authorities said a 6-foot-tall white man wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans fled the BP gas station at 2701 Washington Road at about 3:30 a.m. in a small blue vehicle with a partial tag number of 578KP.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the sheriff's office at (706) 821-1080. Tips can be given anonymously.

Store robbed by man wielding fillet knife

A North Augusta convenience store was robbed early Saturday by a man wielding a six-inch fillet knife.

According to a North Augusta Department of Public Safety report, the man came into Kangaroo Express at 421 West Martintown Road at about 1 a.m. to use the restroom.

After coming out, the man pulled a knife and demanded all the money in the cash register.

He drove away in a dark purple four-door vehicle, according to the report.

Woman reports rape at Augusta motel

A 27-year-old woman told police she was raped inside a motel room at the Augusta Country Inn Friday.

At about 6 a.m., the man forced his way inside the room at 1602 Gordon Highway and pushed her to the bed, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report.

Vehicle fire causes I-20 traffic backups

A vehicle fire caused backups Saturday afternoon on Interstate 20 in Aiken County in the midst of busy holiday traffic, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers were dispatched at 3:33 p.m. to I-20 eastbound near mile marker 29. They had cleared the scene by 5:15 p.m.

Masked man sought in morning robbery


A west Augusta Waffle House was robbed Saturday morning by a man with a semi-automatic handgun, according to Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Ben Parrish.


The robber entered the diner at about 6 a.m. and was dressed all in black with a black bandanna covering his face. He demanded money from the cashier and left after getting it, the investigator said.


The robbery took place in the 2700 block of River Watch Parkway.
