Carolina rants and raves

I WANT TO RAVE about the Greeneway bridge in North Augusta. It's beautiful! Kudos North Augusta! The decorations around town are just beautiful. Thank you, and Merry Christmas, North Augusta!

BIG RAVES FOR First Baptist Church of North Augusta. What a wonderful, uplifting Christmas program my family enjoyed Monday night. The choir, drama and children who sang showed us the true meaning of the Christmas season. Makes me thankful I live in a community like this. We will be back. Thanks so much.

ABOUT THE RANT from the individual who said they are not proud of South Carolina. The state is fortunate to have people like yourself who are willing to speak out against injustice. I would caution you, however, against being too quick to judge the motivations of others. I, along with several of my ASO colleagues, have been working pretty hard with Rep. Joe Neal to craft an approach that will work with our state legislators. The fact that you aren't aware of the work that is being done doesn't mean things aren't happening. The people that work in the field of HIV/AIDS in South Carolina are some of the most compassionate and caring people you will find.

I GUESS THE OLD SAYING "you can get away with murder" is true in Aiken County because a woman got two years' probation for it. She spent time in jail waiting for trial, but she could have received up to 20 years. What kind of justice is that for her 1-month-old baby, who is dead?

THIS IS A REQUEST for the North Augusta post office. Is there any way possible the three blue mailboxes customers use to deposit mail can be moved? I find the current location awful, and (it is) extremely difficult to place mail into the boxes.

I WOULD LIKE TO RANT about the railroad repairs in Bath, Langley and Graniteville. I sure hope that this is not the finished product. Just once, could the Midland Valley area have a decent railroad crossing?

AN APPRECIATIVE RAVE to Dr. Timothy Owings for sharing his God-given musical talent with the community. He blessed all in attendance at First Baptist in North Augusta with a variety of Christmas music. What an uplifting, spirit-moving performance from this man of God, who uses this talent in a most humble way while serving both his Maker and those privileged to witness his musical ministry.

A HUGE RAVE TO the little off-duty nurse who helped pick me up Saturday at the North Augusta Belk store after I had tripped over some boxes. Thank you, and may God bless you, wherever you are.

THIS IS FOR THE cheerleading mom who hit another cheerleader mom in the face at a North Augusta Middle School basketball game on a recent Thursday. You should be ashamed of that type of behavior in front of about 200 people, most of them young kids. I hope your daughter is removed from the cheerleading team forever, and you should serve a little time in prison for assaulting that mom.
