IRVING, Texas - Terrell Owens was fined $35,000 by the NFL on Monday for spitting in the face of Atlanta cornerback DeAngelo Hall during Saturday night's Cowboys-Falcons game, more than twice as much as the last fine for spitting.
Coach Bill Parcells said the team might also punish Owens.
Owens initially told the NFL Network after the game: "I got frustrated, and I apologize for that." But on Monday, he insisted it was an accident.
FALCONS: Coach Jim Mora thinks quarterback Michael Vick and defensive end John Abraham will start Sunday against the Carolina Panthers even though both have significant injuries.
RAVENS: Quarterback Steve McNair is expected to start Sunday, though his injured right hand might affect his practice time.
PANTHERS: Mike Rucker, the team's all-time sacks leader, will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Sunday.
BUCCANEERS: Coach Jon Gruden said veteran quarterback Tim Rattay will make his first start of the season, replacing rookie Bruce Gradkowski, when the Bucs travel to Cleveland on Sunday.
MCPHERSON SUES: Ex-Saints quarterback Adrian McPherson is suing the Tennessee Titans because their mascot hit him with a golf cart before the second half of an August exhibition. The civil suit seeks $5 million in compensatory damages for the Titans' negligence and $15 million in punitive damages.
