Defense fuels Georgia's rout of Savannah State



SAVANNAH, Ga. - Rebecca Rowsey scored 15 points and No. 11 Georgia's defense forced 21 Savannah State turnovers as the Lady Bulldogs romped to a 75-54 win Friday night.

Tasha Humphrey and Cori Chambers each scored 14 points for the well-balanced Lady Bulldogs (8-1) and Megan Darrah added 11.

Ivy Smith led Savannah State (5-4) with 21 points.

It was only the third meeting between the two schools.

Georgia crushed the Lady Tigers 106-34 last season in Athens. The Lady Bulldogs, who dropped out of the top 10 after a 70-62 upset at the hands of Middle Tennessee one week ago, return home to play host to Texas Christian on Sunday.

NO. 17 DEPAUL 81, DETROIT 57

In Detroit, Missy Mitidiero scored 13 points in a reserve role to help DePaul win its eighth consecutive game.

Erin Cattell hit a 3-pointer midway through the first half to spark a 15-3 run that gave the Blue Demons (8-1) the lead for good. DePaul led 34-25 at the half and put the game away with a 12-4 spurt to open the second half.

Mitidiero had 10 points during the second-half streak. Erin Carney and Jenna Rubino each finished with 12 points and Caprice Smith and Samantha Quigley scored 10 apiece.

Joyce Massey had 22 points for the Titans (1-8), who have lost seven in a row. Sandi Brown added 12 for Detroit.

Rubino became the 20th DePaul player to score 1,000 career points when she made a pair of free throws late in the game.
