Young mom reaches out for children

A 24-year-old Hephzibah mother who recently left an abusive husband doesn't have lights on in her mobile home and said she must take her children to her mother's house for baths. So Christmas presents are going to be difficult to buy for her family this year.

"I have three beautiful children who do not deserve to be put through so much ... I really don't know what to do. We are living off child support from my girls' father. I would be willing to work for any assistance of any kind."

The Augusta Chronicle's Empty Stocking Fund will help this family this year. Last year, it raised a record $120,159.56, helping 1,233 families or 5,582 individuals.

Donations can be sent to The Augusta Chronicle, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928, delivered to the security station in the News Building, 725 Broad St., or made at augustachronicle.com/emptystocking. The deadline to apply for assistance was Dec. 1.
