AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at his residence, Col. James Lauritz Low, 96. Col. Low was a native of Hayti, S.D., and has resided in Augusta since 1962. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from South Dakota State University and was an entomologist with the State of South Dakota and a fieldman with the Federal Land Bank. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1965 after 30 years of service. He served in the Pacific and European Theatres during WWII and won the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. After retirement he was Associate Director and Public Relations Director with the United Way of Richmond-Columbia Counties and North Augusta for 10 years. He was President of the Augusta Retired Officers Assoc. and a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Family members include daughters, Helen L. Partridge of Evans, Elsie L. Gould of Atlanta; sons, Robert L. Low of Decatur, Ga., James L. Low, Jr. of Lexington, S.C.; and stepson, William Boswell of Greenville, S.C.; brother, John E. Low of Santa Rosa, Calif.; seven grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Col. Low was preceded in death by his wives, Louise M. Low and Sara Boswell Low. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006, 11:00 a.m., at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Fain officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
