Martin L. Flowers (LINCOLNTON, Ga.)



LINCOLNTON, Ga. - Entered into rest Monday afternoon, November 27, 2006 at his home, Mr. Martin L. Flowers, 77, beloved husband of fifty-five years to Mrs. Charlene Pope Flowers and son of the late Grover, Sr. and Thelma Louise Hatchel Flowers. Born in Darlington, S.C., he proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Missouri better known as the "Mighty Mo". He came to Aiken, S.C. in 1952 where he began his career as a E & I Mechanic at E.I. DuPont and retried in 1989 after thirty-six years of service. After he retired, he and Charlene set out to see the country in there motor home. They relocated to Lincolnton, Ga. in 2001. Pete as he was affectionately known by his family, attended Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Gloverville, S.C. and had also formerly coached Little League Baseball. A craftsman, he enjoyed working with wood and had built three homes himself. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Martin Douglas Flowers (Paulette), New Ellenton, S.C., Steven L. Flowers (the late Terri), Columbia, S.C., L. Renyea Feaster (Ray), Aiken, S.C., Timothy N. Flowers (the late Faye), Lincolnton, Ga., and Jeffrey J. Flowers, North Augusta, S.C.; a sister, Louise F. Isaac (the late Joseph), Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. A brother, the late Grover Flowers, Jr., also preceded him in death. At his request, Mr. Flowers will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Thursday afternoon, November 30, 2006 at 4 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, S.C., Pastor Elsie Odom officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley, S.C. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 3 o'clock until the time of service at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, S.C. To show appreciation for the care provided to Mr. Flowers, the family has asked that if suggested, memorials be directed to United Hospice, 2604 Commons Blvd., Augusta, Ga. 30909.
