Food and fashion

There will be a fashion show at 10 a.m. Saturday at the North Augusta Country Club, 2001 Gregory Lake Road. The show features items from Tolbert's in Aiken and includes brunch. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance. They are available at Jim Bush Flower Shop, Parks Pharmacy and the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce. Call (803) 279-6036.

Fowl holiday treats

Christmas for the Birds will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Living History Park, 299 W. Spring Grove Ave., North Augusta. Participants are urged to bring apples, oranges, pumpkins, peanut butter, lard, pine cones, dried corn, popcorn, cranberries and bird seed to create winter feeders for birds. Cookies will be served and storytimes will be held at 10:30, 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Call (803) 279-7560.

The play's the thing

The University of South Carolina Aiken's University Theatre Productions will present Feast of Carols at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday; Ten-Minute Play Festival at 8 p.m. Jan. 25-27 and 29 and 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Etherredge Center, 471 University Parkway, Aiken. Tickets for the staged production are $12 adults, $10 seniors and $7 students. Tickets for Feast of Carols are $35. Call (803) 641-3305.

Early carols

An Early American Carols concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Aiken First Presbyterian Church, 224 Barnwell Ave. The concert will feature the Baroque Magnificat accompanied by a string ensemble from the Augusta Symphony and Columbia Philharmonic Orchestra. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for students and free for children.

Sanctuary litter

The Silver Bluff Audubon Center and Sanctuary will hold a litter pickup at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the sanctuary, 4542 Silver Bluff Road, Jackson. Volunteers will remove litter from the public roads that run through the property. Call (803) 471-0291.

Book-signing

Karin Gillespie, the author of Dollar Daze and The Bottom Dollar Girls Go Hollywood, will be at Pastel on Richland, 312 Richland Ave., from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, for a book-signing. Admission is free. Call (706) 731-9094.

Big band

The Dick Goodwin Band will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, 126 Newberry St., Aiken. The big-band concert is sponsored by the Aiken Woman's Club. Tickets are $30. Call (803) 644-8837.

Granting hope

The Aiken Junior Woman's Club is accepting applications from charitable organizations for its annual Grants of Hope. The deadline is Monday, Dec. 18. Recipients will be notified by April 15. Call (803) 642-6993.

Volunteers to go
